Before you start
Before you begin, make sure:
The I/O device is physically installed and powered on
A meter for the heat pump is installed and configured in the commissioning wizard
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Connect the I/O device to the network
Connect an Ethernet cable to the network port on the I/O device
Verify the connection is established by checking the LAN LED or in the Shelly App
For network infrastructure requirements and troubleshooting, see Infrastructure requirements for the gateway.
2. Discover the I/O device in the commissioning wizard
The device is now ready for the commissioning wizard. The gateway will scan the network to find available devices, which may take a few minutes. Once complete, the I/O device will appear on the results page.
3. Configure the connected heat pump via SG Ready
During the commissioning process, you can configure the output channels to manage the connected heat pump using SG Ready in a separate step.
Configure a Heat Pump (Central Heating)
Click Add Output Channel
Configure the output channel:

Specify how consumption is measured
In the Set Up Your Connected Heat Pumps step, specify whether the heat pump is connected to its own separate meter or to the general household consumption meter. This information is essential for managing the heat pump effectively. If the heat pump's consumption is measured by a separate meter and billed with a dedicated tariff, it will not be applied to self-sufficiency optimization.
FAQ
Why isn't the I/O device appearing in the commissioning wizard?
Check that the Ethernet cable is connected and that the I/O device received an IP address via DHCP. Restart the gateway and wait for the network scan to complete.
Why does the heat pump need its own meter?
The relay connection of the I/O device only controls the heat pump — it cannot report energy consumption back to the EMS. A dedicated meter must be installed and configured in the commissioning wizard so the EMS can measure the heat pump's consumption and manage it effectively.
How do I update the firmware of the I/O device?
You can perform the update directly through the Shelly app.
For detailed update instructions, refer to the official Shelly documentation.
