Before you start
Before you begin, make sure:
The heat pump is physically installed and powered on
The WPM heat pump manager and Internet Service Gateway (ISG) are installed and connected
All assets (heat pump, ISG, WPM heat pump manager) are updated to the latest software version
The WPM heat pump manager is connected to the ISG via CAN
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Connect the heat pump to the network
Connect an Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on the Internet Service Gateway (ISG)
Verify the connection is established by checking the LED on the ISG or in the web portal
For network infrastructure requirements and troubleshooting, see Infrastructure requirements for the gateway.
2. Access the heat pump settings
Open a web browser and access the heat pump's web portal
Log in (By default, no login credentials are required)
3. Enable communication via Modbus
Navigate to:
Setting → Energy managementConfigure the following settings:
SG Ready enabled:
OnInput:
ModbusUpper room temperature: Set around 1-3 degrees higher than the normally expected temperature
Upper warm water temperature:
55 °C
Navigate to:
StartSet the operating mode to:
Programmed operation
4. Discover the heat pump in the commissioning wizard
The heat pump is now ready for the commissioning wizard. The gateway will scan the network to find available devices, which may take a few minutes. Once complete, the heat pump will appear on the results page.
Indicate whether the heat pump's electricity is billed on a dedicated heatpump tariff or as part of household consumption. Heat pumps on a dedicated tariff are excluded from self-sufficiency optimization.
FAQ
Why isn't the heat pump appearing in the commissioning wizard?
Check that the ISG is connected via Ethernet and that SG Ready is enabled via Modbus (SG Ready enabled: On, Input: Modbus). Verify the operating mode is set to "Programmed operation". Restart the gateway and wait for the network scan to complete.
How do I update the firmware of the heat pump?
Download the latest firmware from the Stiebel Eltron website or contact Stiebel Eltron Service Support to obtain firmware files. The update is performed by inserting a Micro SD card into the upgrade port.
For detailed update instructions, refer to the official Stiebel Eltron documentation.
Why do I need to set the upper temperatures higher?
Without setting the upper room temperature (1-3 degrees higher than normal) and upper warm water temperature (55°C), the control signals from the gateway have no effect on the heat pump. These settings enable the heat pump to respond to optimization recommendations.
What is the ISG and why is it needed?
The Internet Service Gateway (ISG) is a communication module that connects the Stiebel Eltron heat pump to the local network via Ethernet. It is required for Modbus communication with the gateway. The ISG must be connected to the WPM heat pump manager via CAN before the heat pump can be commissioned.
Why must the operating mode be set to Programmed operation?
The heat pump only accepts control signals from the energy management system when the operating mode is set to Programmed operation. Other operating modes disable external control, preventing the gateway from optimizing the heat pump's behavior.
