Before you start

Before you begin, make sure:

  • You have the Vaillant gateway (VR920, VR921, or VR940f)

  • The heat pump is physically installed and powered on

  • The Vaillant gateway (VR920, VR921, or VR940f) is updated to the latest software version

  • The Vaillant system control (multiMATIC VRC700/6 or VRC700/4, SensoDIRECT VRC710, or sensoCOMFORT VRC720) is installed

  • The myVaillant app is installed on your device

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Connect the heat pump to the network

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable to the LAN port on the Vaillant gateway

  2. Verify the connection is established by checking the LED on the gateway or in the myVaillant app

Ethernet port locate under the cover of the gateway

For network infrastructure requirements and troubleshooting, see Infrastructure requirements for the gateway.

2. Discover the heat pump in the commissioning wizard

The heat pump is now ready for the commissioning wizard. The gateway will scan the network to find available devices, which may take a few minutes. Once complete, the heat pump will appear on the results page.

Indicate whether the heat pump's electricity is billed on a dedicated heatpump tariff or as part of household consumption. Heat pumps on a dedicated tariff are excluded from self-sufficiency optimization.

3. Connect the heat pump to the gateway

After the scan completes and the heat pump is discovered, click Next in the commissioning wizard to proceed to the EEBUS connection screen.

  1. On this screen, click Pair to initiate the EEBUS pairing process

  2. Accept the pairing on the myVaillant app

    1. Navigate to:
      OptionsNetwork settingsEEBUS

    2. Select the gateway under Available devices. The gateway SKI (Secure Key Identifier) must match the SKI shown later in the commissioning wizard

    3. Confirm the paring by clicking Trust

4. Configure energy management settings

  1. Open the myVaillant app

  2. Navigate to:
    OptionsEnergy management

  3. Activate buffer storage heating and hot water (if available)

FAQ

Why isn't the heat pump appearing in the commissioning wizard?

Check that the Vaillant gateway is connected via Ethernet (LAN port) and that EEBUS is enabled in the myVaillant app (Options → Network settings → EEBUS). Verify that you've selected and trusted the gateway in the Available devices list. Restart the gateway and wait for the network scan to complete.

How do I update the firmware of the heat pump?

Update the gateway firmware through the myVaillant app or web portal.
For detailed update instructions, refer to the official Vaillant documentation.

What does "Trust" mean in the EEBUS settings?

The Trust button confirms that you authorize the gateway to communicate with the Vaillant heat pump via EEBUS. This establishes a secure connection between the two devices.

Why can't I see the Energy Management option in the app?

The Energy Management option only appears in the myVaillant app after the gateway has been commissioned and the Vaillant heat pump has been successfully paired.
