Overview

The Time-of-Use Optimization identifies periods of low-cost grid electricity or solar surplus. During these windows, gridX sends a "Recommend On" signal to the heat pump. This encourages the unit to shift its energy-intensive heating or hot water cycles to the most cost-effective times of day, effectively using your home's thermal mass as energy storage.

Operational Modes

The system toggles between two primary states to optimize for price and comfort:

  • Mode 2 (Normal / Auto): The heat pump operates in its standard, energy-efficient mode to maintain the household setpoint.

  • Mode 3 (Encouraged / Recommend On): The system signals the heat pump to increase consumption for heating or hot water to take advantage of favorable energy prices.

Important Considerations

To ensure accurate troubleshooting, please note the following technical constraints:

  • No Direct Power Control: The signal is a recommendation, not a specific power set-point. gridX does not "throttle" the heat pump up or down; it simply triggers the unit's internal optimization logic.

  • Autonomous Operation: The heat pump may remain ON or OFF regardless of the gridX signal. Internal factors—such as reaching the maximum temperature, safety defrost cycles, or compressor rest periods—always take precedence over the price signal.
