Written by Timo Streckfuß

Before you start

Before you begin, make sure:

  • The inverter is physically installed and powered on

  • The inverter is updated to the latest software version

  • The FoxCloud2.0 app is installed on your device

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Connect the inverter to the network

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable to port G on the inverter

  2. Verify the connection is established by checking the network status in the FoxCloud2.0 app

For network infrastructure requirements and troubleshooting, see Infrastructure requirements for the gateway.

2. Access the inverter settings

  1. Open the FoxCloud2.0 app

  2. Follow the instructions to complete the inverter setup in the App

3. Plug&Play discovery and configuration

This inverter supports Plug&Play, requiring no manual configuration. It is automatically detected during gateway commissioning and configured with the appropriate settings.

4. Discover the inverter in the commissioning wizard

The inverter is now ready for the commissioning wizard. The gateway will scan the network to find available devices, which may take a few minutes. Once complete, the FoxESS H3 inverter will appear on the results page.

When the inverter is detected, in most cases set the asset type to Hybrid (PV and Battery) from the dropdown.

If you are using the inverter exclusively as a PV inverter, select PV System. If it is used solely as a battery inverter, choose Battery.

Country-specific configurations

Germany

Applies to PV installations exceeding 2 kWp installed after February 24, 2025.

For detailed information refer to §9 EEG (2025) – 60% feed-in limitation

No additional inverter configuration is required. The inverter controls the grid feed-in limit directly (GCP Limit), supporting energy management optimization.

Set the following Energy management setting in the commissioning wizard:

  • Allow optimisation: Yes

  • Grid feed-in limit controlled by inverter: Yes

Additional Information

Dual Meter Configuration

The H3 inverters support connecting two meters:

  • One for the grid connection point

  • A second for an additional PV system

Important

When using two meters, ensure they do not use the same communication address to prevent conflicts. Refer to the FoxESS user manual for configuration instructions.

FAQ

Why isn't the inverter appearing in the commissioning wizard?

Check that you completed the inverter setup with no errors in the FoxCloud2.0 app. Verify all components (data logger, inverter, battery, energy meter) work correctly. Make sure the Ethernet cable is connected to the LAN port. Restart the gateway and wait for the network scan to complete.

How do I update the firmware of the inverter?

You can perform the update directly through the FoxCloud2.0 app.

For detailed update instructions, refer to the official FoxESS documentation.
