Before you start
Before you begin, make sure:
The inverter is physically installed and powered on
The inverter is updated to the latest software version
You have access to the mySolarEdge app
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Connect the inverter to the network
Connect an Ethernet cable to the inverter
Verify the connection is established by checking the inverter display or mySolarEdge app
For network infrastructure requirements and troubleshooting, see Infrastructure requirements for the gateway.
2. Enable communication via Modbus
In the mySolarEdge app, navigate to:
Site Communication → Modbus TCP → EnableConfigure the following Modbus settings:
Port:
502
Save the settings
3. Disable export limit
Navigate to:
Commissioning → Power Control → Energy Manager → Limit ControlConfigure the following settings:
Export Limit:
disabled
Save the configuration
4. Discover the inverter in the commissioning wizard
The inverter is now ready for the commissioning wizard. The gateway will scan the network to find available devices, which may take a few minutes. Once complete, the SolarEdge SE inverter will appear on the results page.
When the inverter is detected, in most cases set the asset type to Hybrid (PV and Battery) from the dropdown.
If you are using the inverter exclusively as a PV inverter, select PV System. If it is used solely as a battery inverter, choose Battery.
Country-specific configurations
Germany
Applies to PV installations exceeding 2 kWp installed after February 24, 2025.
For detailed information refer to §9 EEG (2025) – 60% feed-in limitation
Please follow the official SolarEdge documentation to configure the inverter with a 60% limit.
Set the following Energy management setting in the commissioning wizard:
Allow optimisation:
NoGrid feed-in limit controlled by inverter:
No
Additional Information
Multiple inverters (outside Germany or retrofit cases)
If you have multiple inverters at one location:
Connect inverters via RS485
Set one as leader (with battery and grid meter)
Set others as followers (PV only)
Only connect the leader's Ethernet port to the network
Give each inverter a unique DeviceID (1-10)
The gateway supports one battery per system.
FAQ
Why isn't the inverter appearing in the commissioning wizard?
Check that the inverter is connected via Ethernet and that Modbus TCP is enabled on port 502. Verify the export limit is disabled. Restart the gateway and wait for the network scan to complete.
How do I update the firmware of the inverter?
You can perform the update through the mySolarEdge app. For detailed update instructions, refer to the official SolarEdge documentation.
Why is the status showing "Failed'?
Disconnected: Check Ethernet cable
Gateway Ping Failed: Check cable and DHCP
No IP: Enable DHCP in router or set static IP
What if Modbus TCP shows "Init" for more than 10 seconds?
"Init" is normal for up to 10 seconds. If it lasts longer, restart the inverter and
check your network. It should change to "Ready" or "Connected".
