2. Access the inverter settings

  1. Open a web browser and access the inverter's web portal

  2. Log in as Installer

3. Enable communication via Modbus

  1. Navigate to:
    SettingsModbus

  2. Configure the following Modbus settings:

    • Data output via Modbus: tcp

    • Modbus port: 502

    • SunSpec Model Type: int + SF

    • String Control Address-Offset: 101

    • Inverter control via Modbus: yes

  3. Save the Modbus settings

4. Set control priority

  1. Navigate to:
    SettingsEVU Editor

  2. Configure the following EVU settings:

    • Control via Modbus: priority 1

  3. Save the configuration

5. Discover the inverter in the commissioning wizard

The inverter is now ready for the commissioning wizard. The gateway will scan the network to find available devices, which may take a few minutes. Once complete, the Fronius inverter will appear on the results page.

When the inverter is detected, set the asset type to PV System from the dropdown.

FAQ

Why isn't the inverter appearing in the commissioning wizard?

Check that the IP switch on the Datamanager 2.0 is at position B and the Ethernet cable is connected. Verify Modbus TCP is enabled with the correct settings and "Control via Modbus" is priority 1. Restart the gateway and wait for the network scan to complete.

How do I update the firmware of the inverter?

You can perform the update through the Fronius Solar.web app or the web app. For detailed update instructions, refer to the official Fronius documentation.

What is the Fronius Datamanager 2.0?

It's a communication module in the inverter that provides network connectivity and remote monitoring. It's required for gateway integration.

Can I use the app instead of the web portal?

Yes, you can configure through the app. Check the Fronius Datamanager 2.0 user manual for app setup.

Why must Modbus control be priority 1?

Priority 1 means gateway commands take precedence over the inverter's internal control. Without this, the gateway can't control the inverter effectively.
