    • Meter address: 240

    • Allow control: activated

    • Restrict control: deactivated

  3. Save the Modbus settings

4. Set control priorities

  1. Navigate to:
Safety and network requirementsI/O power management

  2. Configure the following control priorities

    • Modbus control as priority 1

  3. Save the settings

5. Discover the inverter in the commissioning wizard

The inverter is now ready for the commissioning wizard. The gateway will scan the network to find available devices, which may take a few minutes. Once complete, the Fronius Symo GEN24 inverter will appear on the results page.

When the inverter is detected, in most cases set the asset type to Hybrid (PV and Battery) from the dropdown.

If you are using the inverter exclusively as a PV inverter, select PV System. If it is used solely as a battery inverter, choose Battery.

Country-specific configurations

Applies to PV installations exceeding 2 kWp installed after February 24, 2025.

For detailed information refer to §9 EEG (2025) – 60% feed-in limitation

The inverter controls the grid feed-in limit, supporting energy management optimization. The following inverter configuration is mandatory:

  1. Navigate to
    Safety and grid regulationsExport limitation

  2. Configure the following Export Limit settings:

    • Power Control: Total Power Limit

    • Export Limit Control (Soft Limit): 60% of Maximum grid feed-in power in W

    • Export Limit Protection (Hard Limit Trip): 60% of Maximum grid feed-in power in W

  3. Save the settings

Set the following Energy management setting in the commissioning wizard:

  • Allow optimisation: Yes

  • Grid feed-in limit controlled by inverter: Yes

FAQ

Why isn't the inverter appearing in the commissioning wizard?

Check that the inverter is connected via Ethernet at LAN1 (not WiFi) and that Modbus is enabled with Modbus control set to priority 1. Restart the gateway and wait for the network scan to complete.

How do I update the firmware of the inverter?

You can perform the update through the Fronius Solar.web app or the web app. For detailed update instructions, refer to the official Fronius documentation.

What does "Forced Charging" mean on the inverter display?

This is normal when the gateway controls the battery. It's not an error.
