Before you start
Before you begin, make sure:
The inverter is physically installed and powered on
The inverter is updated to the latest software version
You have the master key from the inverter's rating plate
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Connect the inverter to the network
Connect an Ethernet cable to port 1 on the inverter
Verify the connection is established by checking the inverter display
For network infrastructure requirements and troubleshooting, see Infrastructure requirements for the gateway.
2. Plug&Play discovery and configuration
This inverter supports Plug&Play, requiring no manual configuration. It is automatically detected during gateway commissioning and configured with the appropriate settings after connection.
3. Discover the inverter in the commissioning wizard
The inverter is now ready for the commissioning wizard. The gateway will scan the network to find available devices, which may take a few minutes. Once complete, the Kostal inverter will appear on the results page.
When the inverter is detected, in most cases set the asset type to Hybrid (PV and Battery) from the dropdown.
If you are using the inverter exclusively as a PV inverter, select PV System. If it is used solely as a battery inverter, choose Battery.
4. Connect the inverter to the gateway
After the scan completes and the inverter is discovered, click Next in the commissioning wizard to proceed to the connection screen.
Enter the master key of the Kostal inverter (located on the rating plate).
Click Connect to establish communication between the gateway and the inverter
Country-specific configurations
Germany
Applies to PV installations exceeding 2 kWp installed after February 24, 2025.
For detailed information refer to §9 EEG (2025) – 60% feed-in limitation
No additional inverter configuration is required. The inverter controls the grid feed-in limit directly (GCP Limit), supporting energy management optimization.
Set the following Energy management setting in the commissioning wizard:

YesGrid feed-in limit controlled by inverter:
Yes
Additional Information
KSEM meter configuration: If you have a KSEM meter connected via Ethernet, the scan may detect two meters: the Smart Energy Meter and the Power Meter. Configure the meter at the grid connection point (same IP as the inverter) as the grid connection point and set the other as Not set.
Active power limitation (third-generation inverters): Do not change the Limitation of the active power setting in Service menu → Energy management. Changing it may prevent the inverter from working at full power.
FAQ
Why isn't the inverter appearing in the commissioning wizard?
Check that the Ethernet cable is firmly connected to port 1 on the inverter. Restart the gateway and wait for the network scan to complete.
If the inverter still doesn't appear, configure it manually. See How do I configure the inverter without Plug & Play?.
How do I update the firmware of the inverter?
The firmware update can be performed through the inverter's web portal.
For detailed update instructions, refer to the official Kostal documentation.
Why do I see two meters in the scan?
If you have a KSEM meter via Ethernet, both meters may appear. Set the one at the grid connection point (same IP as inverter) as the grid connection point, and set the other as Not set.
Should I enable smart battery control?
No, turn it off when using external control via Modbus TCP. The gateway manages the battery directly through the Modbus protocol.
How do I configure the inverter without Plug&Play?
Use the inverter's built-in web portal to configure it manually.
