Configuration Guide for Enphase Envoy-S + IQ7/8

Written by Timo Streckfuß

Before you start

Before you begin, make sure:

  • The inverter is physically installed and powered on

  • The inverter is updated to the latest software version

  • The Enphase Installer Toolkit app is installed on your device

  • You are logged in to the Enphase Installer Toolkit app with your Enphase Installer Account

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Connect the inverter to the network

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable to the inverter

  2. Verify the connection is established by checking the LED indicator on the inverter

For network infrastructure requirements and troubleshooting, see Infrastructure requirements for the gateway.

2. Access the inverter settings

  1. Open the Enphase Installer Toolkit app

  2. Follow the Enphase instructions to complete the inverter setup in the App

3. Disable AI Optimization

  1. Navigate to
    MenuSettingsProfile

  2. Disable AI Optimization

  3. Save the settings

4. Discover the inverter in the commissioning wizard

The inverter is now ready for the commissioning wizard. The gateway will scan the network to find available devices, which may take a few minutes. Once complete, the Enphase Envoy S inverter will appear on the results page.

When the inverter is detected, in most cases set the asset type to Hybrid (PV and Battery) from the dropdown.

If you are using the inverter exclusively as a PV inverter, select PV System. If it is used solely as a battery inverter, choose Battery.

5. Connect the inverter to the gateway

After the scan completes and the inverter is discovered, click Next in the commissioning wizard to proceed to the connection screen.

  1. Click Connect to begin

  2. Log in with your Enphase installer account

  3. Accept the connection request from the gateway

  4. Close the window to return to the commissioning wizard and complete the setup

Country-specific configurations

Germany

Applies to PV installations exceeding 2 kWp installed after February 24, 2025.

For detailed information refer to §9 EEG (2025) – 60% feed-in limitation

No additional inverter configuration is required. The gateway controls the inverter directly (PV Limit), supporting energy management optimization.

Set the following Energy management setting in the commissioning wizard:

  • Allow optimisation: Yes

  • Grid feed-in limit controlled by inverter: No

Additional Information

Multiple inverters (outside Germany or retrofit cases)

If you have multiple inverters at one location:

  • Connect each inverter to the network individually as a stand-alone asset

  • Install, configure, and commission all inverters as independent units

FAQ

Why isn't the inverter appearing in the commissioning wizard?

Check that the inverter is connected via Ethernet and on the same network as the gateway. Verify AI optimization is turned off and you completed the connection authorization on the Enphase website. Restart the gateway and wait for the network scan to complete.

How do I update the firmware of the inverter?

You can perform the update through the Enphase Installer Toolkit app or the Enlighten portal.
For detailed update instructions, refer to the official Enphase documentation.

What if the connection request fails?

Use the same installer credentials for both the app and Enphase website. Make sure you have an active internet connection during the connection process.

Why turn off AI optimization?

AI optimization must be off so the gateway can control the hybrid inverter properly. The gateway's energy management takes priority over the inverter's internal optimization.
