Configuration Guide for Landis+Gyr ZMD4xx

Written by Timo Streckfuß

Before you start

Before you begin, make sure:

  • The Landis+Gyr ZMD4xx meter and CU-XE 211 communication module are physically installed and powered on

  • You have admin credentials for the CU-XE 211 management web portal

  • You have the scaling factors for the voltage and current transformers installed at the site

  • The CU-XE 211 is updated to the latest software version

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Connect the meter to the network

The Landis+Gyr ZMD4xx meter communicates via the CU-XE 211 communication module. The CU-XE 211 connects to the local network via its data Ethernet port.

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable from the CU-XE 211 data port to the local network switch or router

  2. Verify the connection is established by checking the LED indicators on the CU-XE 211

For network infrastructure requirements and troubleshooting, see Infrastructure requirements for the gateway.

2. Access the meter settings

  1. Open a browser on your device

  2. Navigate to the CU-XE 211 communication module's web portal

  3. Log in using the admin credentials

3. Enable communication via Modbus

  1. Navigate to:
    Servers → Modbus Config

  2. Configure the following Modbus settings:

    • Modbus TCP port: 1502

    • Byte order: CDAB

  3. Save the settings

4. Configure DLMS client settings

  1. Navigate to:
    Clients → DLMS Config

  2. Configure the following DLMS settings:

    • Access security: No Auth / Static Password / SHA-256

    • Authentication: [1] Low level authentication using static password

    • Message security: Disabled

    • Extended meter study: Enabled

  3. Configure the following Mappings with a mapper that matches the scaling factors for your installed transformers. Use Class3 and Polling group: High for all mappings:

    • Active Power Sum: 1-1:16.7.0.255

    • Reactive Power Sum: 1-1:131.7.0.255

    • Apparent Power Sum: 1-1:9.7.0.255

    • Active Power L1: 1-1:36.7.0.255

    • Active Power L2: 1-1:56.7.0.255

    • Active Power L3: 1-1:76.7.0.255

    • Reactive Power L1: 1-1:151.7.0.255

    • Reactive Power L2: 1-1:171.7.0.255

    • Reactive Power L3: 1-1:191.7.0.255

    • Apparent Power L1: 1-1:29.7.0.255

    • Apparent Power L2: 1-1:49.7.0.255

    • Current L2: 1-1:51.7.0.255

    • Current L3: 1-1:71.7.0.255

    • Voltage L1: 1-1:32.7.0.255

    • Voltage L2: 1-1:52.7.0.255

    • Voltage L3: 1-1:72.7.0.255

    • Frequency: 1-1:14.7.0.255

    • s/n: 0-0:42.0.0.255 (OctetString to Bit Mapper, with Value Attribut 2 and Bit Number 32)

  4. Save the settings

5. Configure Modbus client settings

  1. Navigate to:
    Clients → Modbus Config

  2. Configure the following Modbus settings:

    • Label: gridX

  3. Configure the following Mappings. Use Bankinput and Formatfloat for all mappings and ensure the scaling factors match your installed transformers:

    • Active Power Sum: Address 0, Scaling 0.04

    • Reactive Power Sum: Address 2, Scaling 0.04

    • Apparent Power Sum: Address 4, Scaling 0.04

    • Active Power L1: Address 6, Scaling 0.04

    • Active Power L2: Address 8, Scaling 0.04

    • Active Power L3: Address 10, Scaling 0.04

    • Reactive Power L1: Address 12, Scaling 0.04

    • Reactive Power L2: Address 14, Scaling 0.04

    • Reactive Power L3: Address 16, Scaling 0.04

    • Apparent Power L1: Address 18, Scaling 0.04

    • Apparent Power L2: Address 20, Scaling 0.04

    • Apparent Power L3: Address 22, Scaling 0.04

    • Current L1: Address 24, Scaling 40

    • Current L2: Address 26, Scaling 40

  4. Save the settings

6. Discover the meter in the commissioning wizard

The meter is now ready for the commissioning wizard. The gateway will scan the network to find available devices, which may take a few minutes. Once complete, the Landis+Gyr ZMD4xx meter will appear on the results page.

FAQ

Why isn't the meter appearing in the commissioning wizard?

Check that the CU-XE 211 data Ethernet port is connected to the local network and that the Modbus TCP port is set to 1502 with byte order CDAB. Confirm the laptop used for configuration has been disconnected from the management port. Restart the gateway and wait for the network scan to complete.

Why must the laptop be disconnected after configuration?

While a laptop is connected to the CU-XE 211 management Ethernet port, the meter pauses normal data transmission. Disconnecting the laptop restores regular meter operation so the gateway can receive measurement data.

What are scaling factors and where do I get them?

Scaling factors define the voltage and current transformer ratios for the installed measurement transformers at the site. They are required to correctly configure the DLMS mapping in the CU-XE 211. Obtain the scaling factors from the site documentation or from the metering operator.

What are the factory default login credentials?

The factory default username is admin with no password. Set a secure password after your first login.

What if I have forgotten the password?

Perform a factory reset on the device to restore the original factory state. Refer to the manufacturer's documentation for reset instructions.
