my-PV - AC ELWA-E

Configuration Guide for AC-ELWA-E

Written by Marija Gelmanovska

Before you start

Before you begin, make sure:

  • The AC ELWA-E heating rod is physically installed and powered in a water tank according to manufacturer requirements

  • The AC ELWA-E is updated to the latest software version

  • Upper and lower temperature limits have been configured

  • The my-PV Web GUI is installed on your device

IMPORTANT: A maximum of 1 my-PV heating device can be used per system and gateway. The connection of several devices and the master-slave function are not supported and can lead to incorrect control of the energy flows.

DANGER: Using the heating rod when not installed can cause damage to the device and injuries due to hot surfaces. Wrong values can cause harm to people and might potentially damage your heating system.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Connect the AC ELWA-E to the network

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable to the RJ45 port of the AC ELWA-E

  2. Verify the connection is established by checking the LED on the device

For network infrastructure requirements and troubleshooting, see Infrastructure requirements for the gateway gateway.

2. Access the heating rod settings

The IP address of the heating rod can be found via the info section on the display of the unit

  1. Open the my-PV Web GUI

  2. Enter the IP address to login

  3. Ensure that the Device state is set to On

3. Enable communication via Modbus

  1. Navigate to:
    Control settings

  2. Configure the following Modbus settings:

    • Control type: Modbus TCP

    • Power time out: 30 seconds

  3. Save the settings

4. Configure legionella protection (optional)

Activate legionella protection in the web portal to periodically heat the water to at least 60°C. During legionella heating cycles, the AC ELWA-E is not controlled by the gateway.

5. Discover the heating rod in the commissioning wizard

The heating rod is now ready for the commissioning wizard. The gateway will scan the network to find available devices, which may take a few minutes. Once complete, the my-PV AC ELWA-E will appear on the results page.

6. Configure temperature settings in the commissioning wizard

After the scan completes and the AC ELWA-E is discovered, proceed through the commissioning wizard to the Heating Rod configuration step. Configure the three temperature thresholds:

  • Maximum temperature: Upper heating limit with PV surplus. Recommended: 80°C for space heating, max. 60°C at tap for domestic hot water. If the heating element has a thermostat, set it to the same value.

  • Comfort temperature: Above this value, only PV surplus is used for heating. Recommended: ca. 10°C below maximum temperature.

  • Minimum temperature: Below this value, grid supply is used as backup. Recommended: min. 10°C for frost protection; if the heating rod is the primary heat source, follow the heating installer's recommendation.

FAQ

Why isn't the heating rod appearing in the commissioning wizard?

Check that the AC ELWA-E is connected via Ethernet (port 2) and that Modbus TCP is enabled (Control type: Modbus TCP, Power time out: 30 seconds). Verify the device is not in maintenance mode (knob not fully left). Restart the gateway and wait for the network scan to complete.

How do I update the firmware of the AC ELWA-E?

Download the latest firmware from the my-PV website and perform the update through the Web GUI.
For detailed update instructions, refer to the official my-PV documentation.

Where can I download the my-PV Web GUI?

The my-PV Web GUI is not available in an app store. Download it from the my-PV website.

Why can't the Web GUI find my device?

Make sure the AC ELWA-E is not in maintenance mode (knob fully turned left disables DHCP). If the device still doesn't appear, manually enter its IP address using the IP search range button in the Web GUI.

Can I connect multiple my-PV devices to one gateway?

No. A maximum of 1 my-PV heating device can be used per system and gateway. The connection of several devices and the master-slave function are not supported and can lead to incorrect control of the energy flows.
