Before you start
Before you begin, make sure:
The inverter is physically installed and powered on
You have the Sungrow WiNet-S or WiNet-S2 communication module
All assets (inverter, WiNet-S or WiNet-S2 communication module) are updated to the latest software version
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Connect the inverter to the network
Connect the WiNet module to the WLAN port on the inverter
Connect the module to your local network via Ethernet cable
Verify the connection is established by checking the LED WiNet module
For network infrastructure requirements and troubleshooting, see Infrastructure requirements for the gateway.
2. Access the inverter settings
Press the multifunction button on the WiNet module 3 times to start the hotspot
Connect your phone or computer to the WiFi network
Navigate to https://11.11.11.1
3. Enable communication via Modbus
Navigate to:
Forwarding configurationConfigure the following Modbus settings:
Modbus Port:
502SSL Encryption:
disabled
Save the settings
4. Discover the inverter in the commissioning wizard
The inverter is now ready for the commissioning wizard. The gateway will scan the network to find available devices, which may take a few minutes. Once complete, the Sungrow inverter will appear on the results page.
When the inverter is detected, in most cases set the asset type to Hybrid (PV and Battery) from the dropdown.
If you are using the inverter exclusively as a PV inverter, select PV System. If it is used solely as a battery inverter, choose Battery.
Country-specific configurations
Germany
Applies to PV installations exceeding 2 kWp installed after February 24, 2025.
For detailed information refer to §9 EEG (2025) – 60% feed-in limitation
No additional inverter configuration is required. The inverter controls the grid feed-in limit directly (GCP Limit), supporting energy management optimization.
Set the following Energy management setting in the commissioning wizard:
Allow optimisation:
YesGrid feed-in limit controlled by inverter:
Yes
Additional Information
Multiple inverters (outside Germany or retrofit cases)
If you have multiple inverters at one location:
Only one inverter can have a battery and meter
Connect each inverter to the network with its own WiNet module
Don't use RS-485 connections between inverters
Don't configure as master-slave (not compatible with the gateway)
This also works when pairing SH0.5RT - SH10RT with SGxxRT series in retrofit setups.
FAQ
Why isn't the inverter appearing in the commissioning wizard?
Check that the WiNet module is connected to the WLAN port and your network via Ethernet. Verify Modbus port 502 is enabled and SSL encryption is off. Restart the gateway and wait for the network scan to complete.
How do I update the firmware of the inverter?
Download the latest firmware from the Sungrow website and perform the update through the WiNet module web portal at https://11.11.11.1.
For detailed update instructions, refer to the official Sungrow documentation.
What WiNet versions work?
WiNet-S with firmware WINET-SV200.001.00.P027.B002 or later
WiNet-S2 with firmware WINET-SV300.001.03.P014.B001 or later
Can I use master-slave mode?
No, master-slave via RS-485 doesn't work with the gateway. For multiple inverters, connect each one individually with its own WiNet module.
Why turn off SSL encryption?
The gateway uses unencrypted Modbus TCP. SSL encryption would block communication.
The WiNet hotspot isn't appearing after pressing the button?
Ensure the module has power (LED lights on). Try pressing the button exactly 3 times within 2 seconds. If still not working, check the module firmware version matches requirements above.
I'm getting a connection error when accessing https://11.11.11.1?
Confirm you're connected to the correct WiFi network (SGxxxxxxxxxxxxx). Try a different device or browser. Ensure no VPN is active on your device.
Modbus port 502 won't enable in the settings?
Check that the WiNet module is properly connected to the inverter's WLAN port. Restart the module and try again. If the option is grayed out, your firmware may be too old.
