Before you start

Before you begin, make sure:

  • The charging station is physically installed and powered on

For network infrastructure requirements and troubleshooting, see Infrastructure requirements for the gateway.

2. Access the charging station settings

  1. Open a web browser and access the charging station's web portal

  2. Log in with the username and password from the setup data sheet

3. Enable communication via Modbus

  1. Navigate to:
    Load Management

  2. Configure the following Modbus settings:

    • Modbus TCP Server: On

    • Modbus TCP Server Base Port: 502

    • Modbus TCP Server Register Address Set: MENNEKES

    • Modbus TCP Server Allow Start/Stop Transaction: On

    • Modbus TCP Server Allow UID Disclose: Off

  3. Save the settings and restart

These parameters must be configured individually for each charge point.

4. Enable communication via OCPP

  1. Navigate to:
    BackendConnection

  2. Verify the Connection Type is set to Ethernet

  3. Configure the following OCPP settings:

    • OCPP ChargeBoxIdentity (ChargePointID): [Provided by gridX]

    • OCPP Mode: OCPP-J 1.6

    • WebSockets JSON OCPP URL of the Backend: [Provided by gridX]

    • WebSockets keep-alive interval: 0 (default)

    • Send informative StatusNotifications: Off

    • Send error StatusNotifications: On

    • Strategy for StatusNotification state transitions: Occupied on Charging

  4. Leave the following fields empty:

    • Websockets proxy

    • HTTP Basic Authentication password

  5. Save the settings and restart

5. Set maximum charging current

The maximum charging current is set in the XENON Dashboard, but can additionally be limited directly at the charge point:

  1. Navigate to:
    InstallationGeneral Installation

  2. Configure Installation Current Limit [A] to the desired value (e.g., 32)

  3. Save the settings and restart

6. Discover the charging station in the commissioning wizard

The charging station is now ready for the commissioning wizard. The gateway will scan the network to find available devices, which may take a few minutes. Once complete, the charging station will appear on the results page.

FAQ

Why isn't the charging station appearing in the commissioning wizard?

Check that the charging station is connected via Ethernet and that external load management is enabled with Modbus TCP protocol. Verify that the network settings are correct (DHCP or manual IP configuration). Restart the gateway and wait for the network scan to complete.

How do I update the firmware of the charging station?

The firmware update can be performed through the web portal. For detailed update instructions, refer to the official Mennekes documentation.

Where do I find the device credentials?

The username and password are printed on the setup data sheet attached to the charging station.

What if I cannot find or have lost the credentials?

Contact the Mennekes support team. The credentials are device-specific and cannot be reset without manufacturer assistance.

What are the connections on the Bender controller?

The connections may differ depending on the installed Bender controller type. Refer to the Bender CC613 charge controller documentation for specific connection diagrams for your model.

Can I use WiFi instead of Ethernet?

No, the Mennekes Professional series requires an Ethernet connection for load management and communication with the gateway. The optional GSM module is for backend management only, not for local load management.

What if I have an AMTRON station with two charge points?

Always configure the master charge point first, as all settings are automatically applied to the slave. You can access each charge point separately using port-specific URLs (:81 for master, :82 for slave).
