Written by Timo Streckfuß

Before you start

Before you begin, make sure:

  • The inverter is physically installed and powered on

  • The inverter is updated to the latest software version

  • ViGuide is installed on your device and you are logged in with your certified Viessmann installer account

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Connect the inverter to the network

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on the inverter

  2. Verify the connection is established by checking the device display or in the ViGuide app

For network infrastructure requirements and troubleshooting, see Infrastructure requirements for the gateway.

2. Enable communication via EEBUS

EEBUS on the Viessmann Vitocharge VX3 cannot be configured via the inverter's control panel. Use the ViGuide app instead.

  1. Open the ViGuide app and log in

  2. Follow the instructions to complete the inverter setup in the App

  3. Select External EMS and continue to the list of EEBUS devices

  4. Select the gateway from the list of EEBUS devices

  5. Complete the configuration to save the settings

3. Discover the inverter in the commissioning wizard

The inverter is now ready for the commissioning wizard. The gateway will scan the network to find available devices, which may take a few minutes. Once complete, the Viessmann Vitocharge VX3 inverter will appear on the results page.

When the inverter is detected, in most cases set the asset type to Hybrid (PV and Battery) from the dropdown.

If you are using the inverter exclusively as a PV inverter, select PV System. If it is used solely as a battery inverter, choose Battery.

4. Connect the inverter to the gateway

After the scan completes and the inverter is discovered, click Next in the commissioning wizard to proceed to the EEBUS connection screen.

  1. On this screen, click Pair to initiate the EEBUS pairing process

  2. Wait for coupling to finish and verify the connection

Country-specific configurations

Germany

Applies to PV installations exceeding 2 kWp installed after February 24, 2025.

For detailed information refer to §9 EEG (2025) – 60% feed-in limitation

No additional inverter configuration is required. The inverter controls the grid feed-in limit directly (GCP Limit), supporting energy management optimization.

Set the following Energy management setting in the commissioning wizard:

  • Allow optimisation: Yes

  • Grid feed-in limit controlled by inverter: Yes

FAQ

Why isn't the inverter appearing in the commissioning wizard?

Check that the inverter is connected via Ethernet and that EEBUS has been configured in the ViGuide app. Verify that the power limitation was set to Inactive during ViGuide setup. Restart the gateway and wait for the network scan to complete.

How do I update the firmware of the inverter?

You can perform the update through the ViGuide app.
For detailed update instructions, refer to the official Viessmann documentation.

Can I configure EEBUS via the inverter's control panel?

No. EEBUS configuration on Viessmann Vitocharge VX3 inverters is not available via the control panel. Use the ViGuide app to configure EEBUS and complete the pairing with the gateway.
